The Aftermath… “President Obama”

November 5, 2008

“You shall not curse God, nor curse a ruler of your people.” - Exodus 22:28
“Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people” - Acts 23:5.

Well, looks like my vote counted in Arkansas, but in the grand scheme of things, it didn’t make much of a difference on the national scale. I wont speak evil of Obama, but I will continue to speak the truth. I will support him where I can, but I cannot sellout my values. I will pray for him every day (as I have done with Bush) and I will hope that he really is a Christian and is sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading.

I also hope that the “republicans” see the writing on the wall. This was not a sign for them to move to the left. Republicans lost because McCain was never a conservative. You will never win if you rely on a candidate people will vote for only because they are voting against the other guy. Only 23% of conservatives were excited to vote for McCain while 52% of Liberals were excited to vote for Obama. That wasn’t because one delivered a better speech, it was because the principals they stood on. McCain kept leaning left and the more he did, the more votes he lost.

This election was the second referendum on the “liberal republican” & “left-leaning conservative”. The first was 2 years ago in the house/senate elections. Looks like they didn’t get it. PAY ATTENTION Republicans. I’m not afraid to vote for a 3rd party who represents true conservatism.

So, what do conservatives need to do? Besides, PRAY… 76% of Americans still consider themselves conservative. The problem is education. Most of the conservatives do not have the knowledge to defend their own beliefs or even KNOW what they believe. They start to talk about them with someone and the other person tosses this media talking point out that seemingly defeats the conservative argument because the conservative does not have the knowledge of the lie or statistics for the truth to respond. This is partially due to the liberal leaning educational system & college professors and the liberal leaning media, however one can overcome that through personal study.  It really falls on the shoulders of the individual. That is what is missing. Study. Research. Think. Debate. Refine.

NOW is the turning point.

It is up to the conservative movement to educate the uneducated on how capitalism works; how the right to bare arms is not just a “sportsman’s right”, it is a right for YOU; how the fairness doctrine would actually silence the voice of the right; how a balanced budget, alternative energy, and drilling now is a necessity; how America promises the same opportunity not the same prosperity; how abortion robs unborn Americans of this opportunity by killing them; how “cap and trade” would murder our economy; how “global warming” lacks evidence to support the theory and allows the US to lean communist (who have partnered with the movement); how a Marriage of a Man and Woman is best for children and families; how higher taxes are bad for the economy; and redistribution of wealth is a Marxist principal that does not work and removes one’s initiate to succeed! Time to get back to the basics.

Study. Research. Think. Debate. Refine.

My Vote

October 30, 2008

Rarely do I write about politics on this blog. It is more for friends and family to keep up with what is going on in our lives, but this is a historic election and I just wanted to say a few words in no particular order.

#1. The Economy: starting here because it is on the forefront of everyone’s mind. As you know, I am a business broker. I help people sell and buy small businesses. I make about thirty calls every morning and for the past month and a half, I’ve been hearing one continuous concern: “I’m not doing anything until after the election.” Well, that has hampered my efforts. Small businesses all over the country seem to be holding on to all they have. BUT, is that because the current economy or the fear of our future economy?

The answer is BOTH. With out going into great detail, lets say that I am a capitalist and I believe strongly in the free market and trickle down economics (TDE). If you don’t believe that TDE works, let me explain it in a COMMON example that I am hearing EVERY DAY. (STATS: 85% of the USA workforce are employed by SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS)
John, a business owner, has finally paid off his business loan (usually takes 5 to 10 years) and is now going to be receiving profits from his small business that hires about 14 employees. He has worked very hard at it from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day paying himself the minimum of what he needed and reinvesting into the company.  Now, he will realize about $250,000 a year after expenses. Because of his success, he is looking into opening up a second location in Anytown B, USA and may even be able to give raises to current employees. That location will also provide 14 more jobs and would also take about 5 to 10 years to pay off. However, because John is afraid of a future tax hike of 12% or MORE, instead of opening a second location, he decides to save the money and tries to create tax shelters and expenses to protect himself from the higher tax burden that will equal nearly 45%! So, 14 new jobs are not created. Anytown B, USA’s economy suffers from the lack of jobs.
If you are saying to yourself, “This can’t happen, this isn’t real.” Stop. It is real and I hear this story repeated all the time!

Now, imagine, John receives a tax cut? What will he do? He will definitely start the second location and would probably create a third location sooner than later. Why? Because he LIKES what he does and desires to multiply is future revenues to provide for his family and the families of his employees.

John is lucky. What about business owners who aren’t so lucky. Those who were living off of their business and not able to consider a second location. What will they do to move the additional tax burden? 2 Options: fire employees or raise prices. Either way, the local economy suffers.

Here is an article [pdf] that lays out exactly what the tax plans are and below is an image that sums up the article.

#2. Defense. I don’t trust that the democrats will aid in our national defense. Most of the time they consider this a place to CUT spending. I believe it is one of our most important endeavors. As a matter of fact, most of the technological advances in our society that has helped to make us an international power have come from the defense departments spending on research and development. (ie; the internet)

#3. Christian Values. This is the most important issue to me and immediately disqualifies one of the candidates. I believe we should care for orphans and widows. I believe that life begins at the moment of conception and I am pro life. Why am I pro life? Well, the “Christian” reason is that I believe that before we were formed in the womb, God knew us. Jeremiah 1:5 says: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you”. I believe that is enough reason, but if you still aren’t convinced, here are some “secular” reasons:

  • Infanticide: Obama has voted against a bill that would ban this practice. Infanticide happens when a baby survives an abortion. The abortion doctors set the child aside to die of neglect, suffocation, starvation, or with out the medical aid needed in a normal birth situation. This is murder. More info at www.BornAliveTruth.org
  • Partial Birth and Late Term Abortions: Absolutely no reason for this. The baby is born legs first and then a needle is stabbed through the back of its neck and the brain is sucked out. This is brutal by all accounts of humanism.
  • Health of the Mother: There has never been a document case in medical history that has stated it was better fro a mother to go through with an abortion that it was to give birth to the baby or use an alternative procedure that could save the baby and the mother. This “health of the mother” opens the door for a woman to claim a “mental health” issues and basically have an abortion for any reason. As a matter of fact, having an abortion actaully INCREASES the risk of mental and physical health issues. 82% of women who had an abortion regret or feel guilty about the decision.
  • Rape & Incest: I used to say, “Well, I’m pro life except in the cases of Rape or Incest.” Then I met a girl who was the by product of her mother’s rape. She told me that she was glad her mother had her and her mom has told her the story. Her mom says that her daughter is the way that God used something that the devil intended to destroy to instead glorify God and bless her life. Who am I to argue? But that is till a little Christian. A more “secular” reason here would be that babies created from rape and incest are still human, which brings me to the next point…
  • “Who are you to say when life begins?” My response: Who are you to say when life doesn’t begin? My reasoning: there are numerous scientific studies that state unborn babies can respond to outside stimuli as early as 4 weeks!!
  • “But it is the Mothers body and she has that right to make that decision.” Her time to make a responsible decision was before she had sex. When she is pregnant, it is time to LIVE with the consequences of her decision. If it might “inconvenience” her life, she can put her child up for adoption.
  • Stem Cell Research can save lives: That is right, but not embryonic stem cells. Adult stem cells have proven more successful and more useful than embryonic stem cells.

So that is just a few of my reasons for voting Christian values: specifically Pro Life. There are others, but this is a big one that immediately discounts Obama and pushes me toward McCain.

#4. I’m not a socialist. I’m not in favor of the GOVERNMENT being in charge of taking money from one person’s labor and giving it to another person. I believe that the government is to provide general services (roads, defense) and our tax dollars should go to pay for that. What if the government thinks that you make too much money? You know, more than you really “need” by their definition. Isn’t that what Obama has just said to those making over $250,000?

So, you have all of that as the main course and then for dessert: Obama has ties to radicals who tend to be socialist, communist, and terrorist & he has absolutely NO executive experience and only two years of senate experience in which he voted “PRESENT” more often than taking a stance on an issue. He also doesn’t understand that Iran is dangerous country (stating that they are too tiny to be dangerous) and is for providing health insurance to everyone at my expense. He will spend us into oblivion. College shouldn’t be affordable to everyone. It should also operate in a free market. If you had a business and the government said that they would give every American $1,000 to buy your product, wouldn’t you raise your price a little? Yeah. That is what is happening in college too. Obama’s policies are naive and ignorant.

Needless to say, I will be voting for McCain. I will vote Christian Values, then Conservative Principals.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CURRENT ECONOMIC SITUATION CREATED BY BUSH AND HIS CRONIES: Please. Our current situation centers around people who SHOULDN’T have been able to buy homes being able to BUY homes when the GOVERNMENT (Democrats) forced the hands of the banks into providing mortgages to those who couldn’t afford it while assets were being misstated at the top levels of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac despite the REPUBLICAN’s pushing for regulation of that suto-nationalization of home loans. (All of this is on record.) You are right, Bush should have done something. He should have shut them down and held them accountable for their crimes. See what happens when the government meddles in the market? Disaster.

If you are an Obama supporter, don’t bother responding. I will delete your comment. Not only do I know your arguments, I know the arguments against your arguments and I have read all of the quotes and facts in context. I don’t want to have to write a book in response to your stupidity misunderstandings because you have some lame argument that doesn’t hold water.

(PS: After reading my post, “Momma” reminded me that it isn’t nice to call people stupid. I should say that they just “don’t understand.” I think she is right, and I edited the above. I apologize. The statement was out of frustration in dealing with a few Obamaniacs who deny facts. Not everyone is like that… hopefully. THANKS MOM!)

Thanks for reading! This was a LONG one!

Long time no write!

October 17, 2008

Hey family and friends. Just letting you know that we still exist! I know it has been a while since I last wrote and I was in the middle of the Guatemala updates. I wont be able to finish the updates, but we will post a thank you letter that we have been working on for all of our prayer and financial supporters.

When we got back from Guatemala, a lot of changes started taking place. We were both looking forward to getting back to a “normal” routine and really, we still are. We haven’t found that routine yet. It feels like we are flying by the seat of our pants and time is FLYING by. This is the worst way to live! Keep us in your prayers. We want and need to get back on top of things so that we can think and see clearly.

I’ve gotta get back to work.

Next time I write, I will touch on our FPU class & on Master Life.  Thanks for reading!

Guatemala City [Day 3]

July 23, 2008

Again: due to the pix, this post may take a few minutes to load, but give it some time

VBS

Vacation Bible School continued on day 3 in Tita’s school. The kids were LOVING our team and our team was LOVING the kids. It was awesome to watch them play, teach, and love the kids. The previous day, the kids made a cross necklace out of beads. On this 2nd day of VBS, the students made the “salvation bracelet” with the 5 colors representing the different aspects of the Christian faith.

  • Yellow/Gold: God in Heaven on streets of Gold. He is perfect pure and holy
  • Black: We are sinful and separated from him.
  • Red: Christ (God’s son) lived a sinless life & became our atoning sacrifice
  • White: This cleans/purifies our heart and allows us to one day spend eternity with our Savior
  • Green: Like a seed is planted in the ground, God’s love grows in our heart as we grow in faith until we are united with Him in heaven

Construction

We actually met with the president of the POA! Really. Some other residents did not approve of our construction methods because it was foreign to them. They wanted us to use sheet metal and rods to hold the soil back. We wanted to build a weeping retaining wall with water redirected away to decrease pressure on the wall. The whole grown was going to go. Sheet metal would not hold. We were very blessed to have a landscape architect and two other guys with incredible construction experience! We just continued to lay the foundation and build the wall.

Home Visits

During lunch, the VBS team got to do home visits on the “Other Side”. This was our first outreach to the other side and laid the foundation for the next two days!

They visited the home of two boys who have been living alone for over a month so far while their mom was at the hospital! They had no food and were living in and on their trash. The team brought them some food and visited with them, invited them to the “Other Side” VBS. Then they prayed for the boys and their mom.

They also met with a lady who make Tortillas and sells them to others in the area. They prayed for her as well.

More days coming soon! Thanks for reading!

Guatemala City [Days 1 and 2]

July 7, 2008

Due to the pix, this post may take a few minutes to load, but give it some time!

Hey everyone! Thank you so much for your prayers and support for our Mission trip to La Limonada in Guatemala City! This was an incredible week! We had an awesome team and the unison in which everyone worked was truly supernatural!

Day 1: We spent the day in Antigua getting acquainted with each other and the language! The architecture here is amazing. Originally settled by Spain as a colonial city, it really has a look and feel totally different from the rest of Guatemala. The streets are cobblestone and the horizons are volcanoes! & Yes… a few are still considered active!

This was our first day to see La Limonada. As we rounded the corner and started down the hill, the van became completely quiet. Our hearts sank.

We came to a wider spot in the road where we parked the vans and unloaded the 750 lbs of supplies that were donated to restock the school. It was still quiet. No one knew what to say. We were shocked by the poverty we saw. Once we were at the school we started sorting the supplies and getting ready for our first VBS. The school was completely different from the rest of the community. It was beautiful, safe, filled with laughing and happy children. They were so content and yet they had so little!

VBS

Every day the students were broken up into 4 groups and after a morning meeting they would rotate into a new center where they would learn something about God, play some sports, make a craft relating to that days lesson or work on a memory verse. Here are a few pictures from the first day of VBS. Click to see the larger pictures.

Construction

We went there with the intent to fix the railing on the bridge. When we got there, we found a more pressing need. There is a family in the commuinty that has been through SO much and they recently had a “new” small home (4 walls of sheet metal and a roof) built for them. Now, their “yard” was eroding away into the valley and on top of another home below them. This is a HUGE problem in La Limonada given the amount of rain and the type of soil in the area.

Our “job” was nearly impossible. We had to build a retaining wall in potting soil and it had to hold while allowing water to drain safely away form their home and any neighbors homes. We wheeled the supplies in down the narrow streets of La Limonada (countless trips) and carried them up to the home. Here are a few pix from the first day of construction after working to level a 1 foot strip of dirt so we had “room to work”. The wall would extend nearly seven feet over the work step that used to be a hillside into another home!

Days 3 - 6 coming soon!
